In order to raise this money we will be holding three main fundraising events in July!

ROUND WALK
On Tuesday 24th July we will be doing the Sheffield round walk. The round walk is a 15 mile loop around the outskirts of Sheffield, starting at Endcliffe park and passing through everything from dense woods, historical sights to Alpaca farms. If you would like to join us all you need to do is show up with a good pair of boots and some sponsors.

9am meet up at Endcliffe Park Cafe
6pm estimated finish time at Endcliffe Park (it probably won’t take this long)

FOOD HALL AND RAFFLE
On Thursday 26th July we are hosting a night at the Food Hall, a pay as you feel canteen based in Sheffield city centre, which aims to reduce food waste and provide a community run public dining room for all. Along with some amazing helpers, we will be cooking up an asian inspired feast sticking with the theme of our travels in the far east. Along side this we are planning to have a raffle with some great prizes.

TIME (start and end tbc)
The money raised from this event will be split with the Archer Project and the Food Hall.

COFFEE MORNING AT NANDO'S
Nando’s on Ecclesall road has kindly offered to host with us a coffee morning on Saturday 28th July selling tea, coffee and cakes to bring people together and raise a little money.

TIME 9am - 11am

day 4: Mutianya and the Heavenly Ladder We started the day with a 1000+ steps ascending the side of the wall. From there we covered 11 watchtowers and many many more step till we reached “the heavenly ladder”; a steep (45 degree) ancient stair case with 460 steps. It was another hot day and this climb was incredibly hard, filling our minds with thoughts of quitting not even halfway up! But we persevered and made it to the top of the ladder and it was well worth it. The heavenly ladder is a famous and challenging section with amazing views from the top. We then had to descend the ladder and walk back another 20 watchtowers to reach the toboggan that would slide us back to the bottom of the mountain. Distance trekked: 7km Max altitude: 780m Time: 6 hours

Great Wall of China trek day 2

Day two: Gubeikou, Taochunkou, Jinshanling Today we trekked for 7 hours, covering 27 watchtowers, dirt paths, hundreds of steps and even a bit of forest! Today was a lot harder in terms of terrain and length of the trek. We got to see some of the original parts of the wall, some still in relatively good condition- other parts collapsed and eroded. There were pretty much no other people on this trail apart from a group of training army cadets. The views from this section were even more impressive despite the hanging smog. Halfway in we had to avoid a military controlled zone and detour into the woods at the bottom of the mountains, only to rejoin the wall to finish the days trek. Substance trekked: 13km Max altitude: 430m Time: 7-8 hours

Great Wall of China trek day 5

The final day of trekking we went to do a short warm down walk along the popular Juyongguan section. A loop defending a passage way through the mountains to Beijing. It was very busy here, mainly with school kids on a trip. Exhausted from the 4 days prior, we still found this short trek very difficult walking up and down the steep steps. On the way we stopped by another section out in the middle of nowhere to lay a brick on a part of the wall which is currently being restored. Distance trekked: 3km Max altitude: 480m Time: 3 hours Thus concludes our Great Wall of China trek! We are very proud of what we achieved. It has been very hard but well worth it.
